Darren has been a local Councillor for the last 20 years. He has had the honour of representing a wide area of the west of Wycombe including all of Sands.
Sands specifically he has been a former Bucks County and a Bucks Unitary Cllr, knowing almost every road, house, pathway and blade of grass in Sands.
During this time, he has helped hundreds of residents with a wide range of issues.
In his spare time, he and Orsolya go out litter picking, he also enjoys kayaking, walking and riding motorbikes.
Professionally he is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and also a Chartered Marketer. He works for an established B2B marketing agency based in London.
As an Independent unable to hide behind political party banners, he takes his reputation very seriously and tirelessly fights for residents of Sands.
The system is terrible, and Buckinghamshire Council been controlled by one political party for 130 years, many times is knocked back but always able to get back on the horse and carry on fighting.
He wants action on issues such as parking, speeding vehicles and getting money for the local community to use, instead of them hoarding it.
Very much wants Sands to have its own Parish Council and was very angry that Wycombe was not allowed to have its own Town Council. This was denied by the ruling Tories out of Aylesbury in the way that they carefully staged the so-called public consultation.
He works very close with ‘Our Sands’ (formally Sands Residents Association).
Darren is the candidate that other candidates want to vote for (and some do). Because he is extremely good at his job as a seasoned Councillor.
First elected 4 years ago as a Buckinghamshire Unitary Councillor and has represented the ward of ‘West Wycombe’ which includes the Parishes of West Wycombe, Piddington and Wheeler End.
She is an Accountant working for a large national UK charity, which helps children.
Studied with AAT and ACCA.
She has worked behind the scenes with her husband Darren for the last 20 years and more recently in the coal face of local politics.
Her husband’s family came from the Lane End Parish, whereas 4 generations worked Kensham farm before the Edgley family purchased it in the 1950s. His family were deep routed in Wheeler End, Cadmore End and the surrounding areas including when Darren lived as a young boy in Lane End itself attending the school and church in the village.
Orshi has attended many meetings, raised issues and looked to help resolve constituents' casework.
She is a keen and caring litter picker, helping various local litter picking groups including the main one in Lane End, also helping in Wheeler End, Piddington and in West Wycombe with the Parish Council community litter picks.
Enjoying socialising, holidays, movies and theatre outside of her time as a Cllr, carrying out her full-time role and litter picking.
Bucks' system is flawed. One ‘West Wycombe’ ward Conservative councillor, elected with both Orshi and Darren, failed to attend any parish council or residents' meetings, or reply to emails. He only attended enough meetings to avoid removal yet received full pay. Orshi and Darren handled his entire casework, even for his own party members who approached them due to his inactivity.
The ruling political party were made aware of this, yet still did nothing to change the rules or make him ‘work’ for the role that he ran for and got elected for.
This is just one example of how the system needs to change, if people still keep voting Conservative nothing will change in Buckinghamshire Council.
Neither Orshi nor Darren believe in having party politics in local Government.
Since 1889 the one party ( Conservative ) has ruled in Buckinghamshire. In our minds has done a terrible job of late (Bucks County Council and more recently Bucks Unitary Council). The same one party has ruled for many years the district councils and until more recently they had control of all of the local Bucks MPs.
There are a group of Independents some of which have already been elected and fighting against the system that doesn’t serve the constituents.
These Independents are also standing in this year’s election plus many more new candidates.
The system is as bent as a ‘6 bob note’.
One person holds the real power in Buckinghamshire and that is the leader of the Council.
Every Cllr other than the leader must fight against the system to try and get help to solve problems. Including members of his own political party. The system is set up to say ‘No!’. A Cllrs job is to turn that no into a yes.
The Council is near bankrupt. We are all seeing cuts upon cuts with more and more services cut down to the very bone in order not to go into the red. Selling off assets one by one in order to avoid bankruptcy but what will happen when they run out of assets to sell?
Staff gone through redundancy, meaning more casework for those that are left, making it very hard and expensive for us as residents to go about our normal lives. Making us pay for more and more services that the system makes it hard to obtain.
We are spreading, and this is the real reason ‘why’; as independents we cannot hide behind a political party, we are not whipped and therefore forced to vote for issues that are not in the best interest of our constituents and don’t believe in.
We vote for what is right for those that have decided to vote for us.
Each of us get elected for our reputation rather than being a member of a party.
We believe in working in collaboration with other Cllrs cross party.
Independents don’t care about left- or right-wing political ideology.
As we are seeing, the two main established parties in the UK have and are making terrible mistakes which has wreaked our economy and now leaving the most vulnerable in our communities fearful as well as making life for our farmers extremely hard as well.
We’ve had enough of the two party control, its time for real change.
